'Winkle' is revered as the greatest test pilot of all time, having set numerous aviation records that will almost certainly never be broken. His achievements have included flying 487 different types of aircraft, being the first man to land a jet on an aircraft carrier and he also flew extensive combat missions during the Second World War.
